Readiness sessions and assessments
You'll receive an email inviting your child to attend a Nursery Readiness session, Pre-Reception or a Reception Readiness session or an Assessment for Year 1 upwards.
Those entering Nursery, Pre-Reception or Reception will meet with our Head of Early Years Education. The session for Nursery Pre-Reception and Reception aged children is informal, lasts approximately 30 minutes and is designed to ensure children will thrive at Prince's Gardens Preparatory School.
Children wishing to enter Year 1 or Year 2 will have an assessment and will be interviewed by the Headmistress.
Children wishing to enter Years 3 to 6 will complete assessments in both English and mathematics with a member of the Admissions Team and an interview with the Headmistress.
At our open events, you’ll have the opportunity to meet our Headmistress, Mrs Alison Melrose.
We have been holding these events locally and, whilst we have restrictions in place, we will be hosting these events ‘virtually’ – via Zoom. Mrs Melrose would also be delighted to Skype or FaceTime on an individual basis in the meantime. Please contact the Admissions Team for more information or to arrange a suitable time.

Each year we are able to award a number of scholarships to pupils who demonstrate exceptional potential. Designed to recognise and reward excellence, we attract some of the best candidates in London.
Scholarships can be awarded for entry to Year 3, 4 or 5, depending on which Scholarship your child is applying for.
The application and tasks are designed to enable us to see each child’s potential for creativity, talent and innovation and the atmosphere will be relaxed and friendly. References from the child’s current school will be required.
All Scholarships are awarded solely on merit and each scholarship pupil is awarded with a fee remission. Successful candidates will be informed in writing in January.
Prince’s Gardens has an engaging and active curriculum which inspires a love of learning, far beyond the taught curriculum. Using London as our classroom, and with some of the world’s greatest museums on our doorstep, Prince’s Gardens is a fantastic backdrop for cultivating inspiration and developing independent thinking skills and enquiring minds.
The outstanding and engaging curriculum at Prince’s Gardens enables talent to develop and to shine. We are keen to offer our All-Rounder scholarship to applicants wishing to enter the school in Years 3 or 4. Pupils who demonstrate academic excellence as well as a talent in art, drama, music, sport, STEM or languages are invited to complete the scholarship assessments in January.
Prince’s Gardens has an outstanding music department with close ties to the Royal College of Music. All pupils are introduced to an exciting range of instruments and musical styles during class music lessons.
We are delighted to offer music scholarships to children keen to join the school in Year 4 or 5 who show excellent potential and commitment in music. Scholarships are awarded by the Headmistress, following an audition with the Head of Music.
